S106 Directors Blog

Avatar

A blog covering my experiences working as a director on S106 projects. And my work with the HPX300 and P+S Technik Mini35 combination. This is where I will post my day to day life, my experiences and other work related stuff. Erhm… I guess mostly work related stuff.

Paper on 35mm primes

I am completely in love with the look of these prime lenses! And the workflow is so much better then shooting on film. And with the grain from the ground glass and good lighting you can still achieve amazing results. This is one of my more recent scenes shot with an adapter. What do you think?

Very cool piece… how did you do the 3D? And how did you shoot considering the post production? Lighting, color and symmetry are great, very strong. I just saw your equipment list on DVXuser, didn’t mention anything about a dolley… what did you use for the first shot push? Also, I’m looking into getting a fluid head, how’s the Sachtler working out for you? Thanks, great job!

    Stay creative

  2. As a director I am not completely up to speed with the technical side of the 3D workflow, I’ll try to get the guys to post their insights here.

In terms of post, we just decided to make a free flight shot on a neutral background so we could just put in the birds any way we liked. The table close ups involved tracking.

The dolly was a rental… and the fluid head is great, it’s an old one I could get second hand. The new ones are very expensive, around 3k. The head is great, do get carbon legs because the alu ones are very heavy.

    Thanks for the compliments!

  3. Hi there,

In 3D we made the ‘models’ and rigs of the paper birds which are animated in the shots after tracking the camera movement. After rendering the layers I composited them in the original material. Anything specific you want to know?

I just thought it looked pretty seamless, great job! I know nothing about 3D animations in HD… Just sort of shocked me the first time I watched it. So you’re using the EX1 with which DOF adapter here? Letus extreme? Just trying to do my research before committing to a DOF adapter… Zeiss primes?

Also, is this a piece of something larger or just a snipet for a test? Thanks for the quick replies

    Cheers,
