S106 Directors Blog

Avatar

A blog covering my experiences working as a director on S106 projects. And my work with the HPX300 and P+S Technik Mini35 combination. This is where I will post my day to day life, my experiences and other work related stuff. Erhm… I guess mostly work related stuff.

35mm test footage

After the release of Sony’s new PMW-350 I thought it would be appropriate to speak up for our Panasonic HPX300. Sony might have the 2/3 ” battle won but with a 35mm adapter chip size isn’t that important. The Sony still records 35 m/s Long Gop wich is an old mpeg codec, no match for Panasonics 100 m/s AVC Intra. And do remember that the Sony is double the price.

Ok so a lot of people have been asking for some test footage from our new camera. They were right there should be more, so here it is:

Clip 1, Slow motion: uncompweb

Clip 2, Person in street 3 lenses: uncompweb

Clip 3, Ninja in street different shutter speeds: uncompweb

The footage is 720p uncompressed or H264.

Have a look at the bokeh, grain and other stuff that catches your eye and let me know what you think.

I just purchased a HPX300 instead of the PMW350. I am going to use the Letus 1/3″ relay with the Ultimate adapter. I am curious to see what i get with fast primes. I am going to cut this camera with shots from a Canon 7d. Hopefully it will all work out well. I did “labor” over which camera to get, but the PMW350 (body ony) was as much as a RED One, and I would have to still get a Nanoflash or AJA Ki Pro to get around that pesky codec. If I am going to pay $17500 for a camera body then I am going to get a RED. Full frame 35mm is much better than 2/3″ and with RED’s new sensor it will get just as good low light performance as Sony’s chip.

Hello there. I’m planning to buy a 370 and want to make a combo just like this one of yours. What brands and equipment are attached to the body of the camera. Thank you very much, the tests look impresive!
